District Level Science Exhibition – 2019

Goa State Council for Science & Technology (GSCST) is the nodal Agency to implement various Science Awareness & Environment Popularization programmes in the state of Goa. The Council is also involved in Rural Development programmes through the implementation of various watershed projects, which emphases issues on soil & water conservation and horticulture plantation through people’s participation. Recently, The Council had undertaken Taluka level Science Exhibition for high school students and other various projects like Eco- Water Literacy and Sanitation for local youth and Panchayat members and has created awareness about water scarcity and importance of its conservation as well as sustainable efforts made towards proper sanitation practices. National Science Day is also an annual event observed by the Council involving Educational Institutions. Nature trail, Nature trail and Nature Camps. Council also undertakes training programme in composting and vermin composting involving teachers, Progressive farmers and SHGs members.

The programme is specially designed to provide an opportunity for the school students to get the exposure to the various science & technology related issues and to encourage them to pursue higher education in Science and exhibits their talent.

Objectives: 

  • To provide an opportunity to students to learn and understand the latest development in Science & Technology.
  • To provide a forum to create the new ideas to their existing ideas from material and activities.
  • To developed an understanding about the role of science & technology to meet the needs to the society.
  • To provide an opportunity to the student to show their talent.
  • To encourage students to participate in the various quizzes/competitions organize during the event.

Considering the above objectives, and in order to achieve the desired goals the Goa State Council for Science and Technology, Saligao with the financial support from National Council for Science and Technology Communication, Department of Science & Technology, Government  of India, New Delhi,  has conducted two exhibitions one for North Goa District and other for South Goa District respectively.

The North Goa District Exhibition was organized in association with the Goa Science Centre, Miramar and for South Goa district with Village Panchayat Verna.

 

North Goa District Science Exhibition:

The Goa State Council for Science & Technology in Association with Goa Science Centre had organized two days District level Science Exhibition on 21st and 22nd August 2019, wherein students showcased static and working models which can be used for learning various scientific concepts for students from VIIIth  and IXth  standard. The objective was not only to inculcate a scientific attitude andresearch-mindedness but also creating teaching aids. Twenty one schools with group of 06 students and one accompanying teacher participated the said exhibition.

The participated schools have displayed their respective static and working Science model on topic such as Water Conservation, Conservation of energy during the exhibition. There was 17 science models was displayed by the schools for the said exhibition. The programme was started with inaugural function, Senior Teacher from St. Cruz High School; Mrs. Quiteria Souza inaugurated the said exhibition and appraised the students to come out with innovative ideas. Shri. Deepak Parab, Principal coordinator of the exhibition and Mrs. Subadha Pednekar representative from Goa Science Centre were also present for the inaugural function.

During this two days exhibition there was series of lectures has been conducted on following topic:

  • Conservation of water and Rain water harvesting techniques

by Dr. Sachin Tendulakar, Chief Executive officer (CEO),  from Goa mineral foundation.

  • Energy Conservation by: Mrs. Anupa Korjuvekar Jr. Engineer from Goa Energy Development Agency.
  • Science Demonstration lecture on Physics and Chemistry was given by Mrs. Subhadha Pednekar and Mrs. Sampada, Eductional Assitant from Goa Science Centre.

The poster making competition was organised for participating students from standard VIIIth and IXth with the theme on “yours idea of improving human life through Science & Technology”,  55 students took part in the poster making competition and best four posters were shortlisted by the Evaluator, Mr. Kalidas Sartardekar, Drawing teacher from Govt. High School, Ponda, for the prizes.

Written Quiz was also conducted for participating students from standard VIIIth and IXth on topic General Science & Environment to create the awareness amongst the students, 65 students took part in the written Quiz competition and five students obtaining highest marks have been shortlisted for the prizes.

Students were also given the opportunity to visit the innovation hub and planetarium show at Goa Science Centre. Around 500 students took the benefit of the said exhibition, the event was successfully organised by the GSCST.

South Goa District Science Exhibition:

The Goa State Council for Science & Technology in Association with Goa Science Centre had organized two days District level Science Exhibition on 24th and 25th September 2019, wherein students showcased static and working models which can be used for learning various scientific concepts for students from VIIIth and IXth standard. The objective was not only to inculcate a scientific attitude and research-mindedness but also creating teaching aids. Nineteen schools with group of 06 students and 1 accompanying teacher had participated the said exhibition.

The participated schools have displayed their respective static and working Science model on topic such as Water Conservation and Conservation of energy during the exhibition. There was 19 science models was displayed by the schools for the said exhibition. The programme was started with inaugural function, Rev. Fr. DiagoFernandes, Parish Priest of Holy Cross Church; Verna was the Chief Guest of the function and inaugurated the said exhibition in presence of Shri. Antonio Da Costa, Sarpanch of Village Panchayat Verna, shri. Deepak Parab, Principal Investigator of the exhibition, Dr. Sachin Tendulkar, Official from Goa Mineral Foundation and Panch member of Village Panchayat Verna was also present. Fr. Diago appraised the students to come out with innovative ideas in Science and Technology.

During this two days exhibition series of lectures has been conducted on following topic:

2) Astronomy by: VideshKahndeparkar Official from Friends of Astronomy
3) Energy Conservation by: Mrs. AnupaKhorjuvekar, Jr. Engineer from Goa Energy Development Agency.
4) Biological Diversity of Goa by: Mrs. ReshmaKerkar, Scientific officer and Administrative Head from Goa State Biodiversity Board.

The poster making competition was organised for participating students from standard VIIIth and IXth with the theme on “yours idea of improving human life through Science & Technology” , 35 students took part in the poster making competition and five best posters were shortlisted by the Evaluator. Drawing teacher Mr. Kalidas Sartardekar from Govt. High School, Ponda, for the prizes.

Written Quiz was also conducted for participating students from standard VIIIth and IXth on general Science & Environment topic to create the awareness amongst the students. 32 students took part in the written Quiz competition and five students obtaining highest marks have been shortlisted to give the prizes.

Around 500 students took the benefit of the said exhibition, the event was successfully organized by the Goa State Council for Science & Technology.
