National Mathematics Day 2019

National Mathematics Day – 2019 Celebrated by GSCST, Saligao, Goa.

National Mathematics Day is known for SrinivasRamanujan. A self-taught mathematician who made extraordinary contributions to the world of mathematics. S Ramanujan was one of the most influential mathematicians of his time. He was considered as doyen of number theory, infinite series, mathematical analysis and making formulas and equations without any formal training in pure mathematics. As a mathematical genius, he had compiled more than 3900 mathematical results and equations and getting discoveries named after him. His numerous assertions in mathematics opened up new vistas of mathematical research. Along with British Mathematician Hardy, Ramanujan had discovered the smallest number represented as sum of two cubes 1729 which is known as Hardy-Ramanujan number.

He didn’t live long but in his short life he compiled more than 3900 mathematical results and equations, and his discoveries namely Ramanujan Prime and Ramanujan theta inspired further research on the subject.

An unparalleled genius and a self-taught mathematician, Ramanujan found his true calling in numbers and made extraordinary contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions.

Objectives-

1) To create awareness and develop love and compassion for mathematics.

2) To enhance creativity of students.

3) To develop curiosity for various natural phenomenon taking place and to satisfy the same

Throughhands on activities.

4) To promote development of mathematicstalents through quizzes, competitions and screening of audio-visual programmes.

To give wide publicity of these programmes, Goa State Council for Science & Technology, Saligao Goa jointly with other funded Educational Institutions, with the financial support of Department of Science & Technology, GoI, New Delhi taken a keen interest and organised the observance of both the above programmes in the State in a grand way.

The Goa State Council for Science and Technology (GSCST) celebrated (observed) Mathematics day on 05/02/2020 (22/12/2019) at the Institute of Menezes Braganza, Panaji Goa.
